The Mushrikun Mujadidds

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In the 1,433 years since the blessed Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم and his noble Companions radhiallāhu ‘anhum made Hijra, the ummah has been blessed with esteemed personalities whom were strengthened by God to rejuvenate Islam beginning with the century after the Companions radhiallāhu ‘anhum. This belief is sound and found in the following hadith narrated by Abū Hurayrah radhiallāhu ‘anhu:

“Surely, Allah will send for this ummah at the advent of every one hundred years a person (or persons) who will tajdīd [renew, revive, restore] for it its deen [religion].” (Sunan Abū Dawūd, Book 37: Kitab al-Malahim [Battles], #4278)

The great Imam Jalāluddin al-Suyūtī in his Mirqāt al-Saud in the marginal notes of Sunan Abū Dawūd records, “It is ‘ijmā [consensus] of the muhaddithīn (hadith masters) that this hadith is sāhīh.” The word “tajdīd” means the restoration of the original beliefs and practices after their being changed, distorted or forgotten. The person who carries out this exemplary and praiseworthy task is referred to as a mujaddid [reformer]. The definition of mujaddid is given as:

Mujaddid: Renewer. Person who initiates tajdid (renewal). According to hadith, a mujaddid is to come at the beginning of each century to renew the faith and correct the practice of Muslims… back to the Islam of the early community as they interpret it, rejecting as innovations any later added practices or customs.” (The Oxford Dictionary of Islam, John L. Esposito, p.213)

There is broad agreement that the function of the mujaddid is the restoration of Islam to its pristine purity. The Ahmadiyya adhere to this belief as Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself laid claim to the status of the mujaddid of the 14th Islamic century, stating that each mujaddid is sent by God. In his claim we find that he accepts this report of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم as he uses it as proof of his own standing as the 14th century mujaddid:

“Among the arguments in decisive Hadith reports which confirm the authenticity and truth of the claim of this writer is also the report regarding the appearance of mujaddids which finds a place in Abu Da’ud and Mustadrik, i.e. for this Umma a mujaddid would appear at the head of every century, and would reform the faith according to the needs of the Muslims. The words “he will reform for them” (yujaddidu la-ha¯) in this report show clearly that at the head of every century a mujaddid will come who will reform the prevailing evils.” (A Brief Sketch of My Life, Kitab al-Barriya, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, p.72)

“Dear brethren! It is indispensably necessary for heavenly light to descend when darkness prevails. Thus, the Most High God says in the Holy Qur’an, chapter Al-Qadr, giving glad tidings to the believers, that His Word and His Prophet descended from heaven during the Night of Majesty, the Lailat-ul-Qadr, and so does every Mujaddid or reformer who comes from God.” (Predominance of Islam, Fatah-e-Islam, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, p.37)

The term mushrikun mujaddid is an oxymoron. It is impossible to find one who you believe is a mujaddid [refomer] who is also a mushrik [among those who commit shirk] as the two terms are mutually exclusive. You can not revive a monotheistic religion when you hold beliefs of polytheism.

Mushrik: A person who commits shirk.” (Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Religion, Volume 2, Ramesh Chopra, p.524)

Before providing a list of mujaddids from the perspective of the Ahmadiyya, the point of this article is that the foundational core tenet of the Ahmadiyya religion is that the belief of ʾAhlu-s-Sunnati wal-Jamāʿah [people of the tradition of Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم and the consensus of the Ummah] is not only incorrect but tantamount to shirk [polytheism], specifically the belief that ‘Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام ascended without māwt [death] and will nuzūl [descend] in the literal sense. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad states:

“…It is rude to say that Jesus didn’t die, it is indeed shirk al-akbar [major polytheism].” (Roohani Khazain, Volume 22, Haqiqat-Ul-Wahi, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, p.660)

In Alhaj Ata Ullah Kaleem a small booklet consisting of twenty-four pages found on the official Ahmadiyya website, it is said that the hadith of the the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم has been fulfilled in terms of the past thirteen centuries. The booklet then produces a list to the effect of listing great Islamic personalities for each century who are declared mujaddids:

“Ummat-e-Muslema has been promised that God will appoint for it in the beginning of every century, one who will restore its faith for it. Consequently, this promise had been fulfilled in the past 13 centuries with the advent of Mujaddideen–regenerators, who were distinguished exemplars of Islam, and played a very important part in spreading and establishing Islam:

1st century Umar Bin Abdul Aziz
2nd century Imam Shafi’i; Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal
3rd century Abu Sharh & Abul Hasan al-Ash’ari
4th century Abu Ubaidullah of Neshapur & Qazi Abu Bakr Baqilani
5th century Imam Al-Ghazali
6th century Al-Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jeelani
7th century Imam Ibn Taimiyyah & Khwaja Mueen-ud Din Chishti
8th century Ibn Hajar Asqalani & Saleh Bin Umar

Ahmadiyya believe that each one of these mujaddid came to restore Islam to its pristine purity. Hence for them to carry this task out, there is no doubt about their sound aqeeda [creed] from the perspective of the Ahmadiyya, for if they did not have sound core beliefs then how could they possibly attain the status of mujaddid of their respective century when Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself claims that light provided by God descends through the mujaddid. Though it is possible for them to make mistakes it is impossible for all or even the majority of these personalities to err unanimously as a body on fundamental beliefs and hold a creed with consensus among them which allegedly comprises shirk and thus group them as mushrikun [polytheists]. But this is always the problem with man-made religion:

“And say: “Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish.”” (The Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Isra (17), Ayah 81, Translation: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

It has thus far been established that the Ahmadiyya religion believe in the concept of the system of mujaddids and Mirza Ghulam Ahmad declares their light as the light of God. In addition to this, Ahmadiyya as a belief system states that all those who adhere to the credence of the descent of ‘Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام in the classical sense are polytheists. In keeping this in mind, in conjunction with the above list, observe the following works/quotes of some of these remarkable personalities of Islam whom Ahmadiyya have themselves listed as mujaddids:

2nd Century: Imam Abū ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’ī (767/150 – 820/204 CE/AH)

“In the same way that the Prophet ‘Isa عليه السلام ascended to the heavens at Allah’s command, he will also return to Earth at Allah’s command and will enforce Islamic justice. People whose faith is weak may not regard this as possible. But it is an easy matter after recognizing the might of Allah.” (The Great Book of Scholarship of Shafi’i, Halil Günenç, expanded 2nd edition, p. 23)

3rd Century: Abū al-Hasan ‘Alī ibn Ismā’īl al-Ash’arī (874/260 – 936/324 CE/AH)

“There is a consensus among the community of the faithful [ijma’ ummat] that Jesus عليه السلام was raised alive to the heavens.” (Al-Ash’ari, Al-Ash’ari’s al-Ibana ‘an Usul al-Diyana, (Cairo: 1986), 2:115)

4th Century: Abū ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hakīm al-Nishāburī (933/321 – 1012/403 CE/AH)

[He is the author of the ahadith collection Al-Mustadrak in which he states that] “…Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said about the verse of the Holy Qur’an (4:159): “This verse is proof that Jesus عليه السلام, son of Mary, will appear… All of the People of the Book will believe in him before his death.”” (Al-Hakim, Al-Mustadrak, 2:309)

5th Century: Abū Hāmid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazālī (1058 CE – 1111/505 CE/AH)

“…then the Qur’an would be erased from hearts and not a word of it would be remembered; and the people would return to the poetry, songs, and tales of the pre-Islamic period; then the Anti-Christ would go forth and ‘Isa, the blessings and peace of God upon him, would descend to kill him. The hour when all this occurs would be like the pregnant woman in travail, waiting for the moment of her delivery.” (The Secrets of Pilgrimage, p.17)

“Out of the Prophets, Jesus Christ عليه السلام did not marry but he will marry after his second advent.” (The Revival of the Religious Sciences, Ihya Ulum Uddin, Secret of Marriages, p.21)

6th CenturySayyid ‘Abd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī (1077 – 1166 CE)

“Jesus عليه السلام did not marry; he never took a wife. At the end of time, Allah (Exalted is He) will send him back down to the earth, and He will then marry him to a young woman of Quraish, who will bear him a son.” (Utterances of Shaikh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (Malfuzat): Collected Sayings from the Crown of Saints, translated by Muthar Holland, p.62)

7th Century: Taqī ad-Dīn Ahmad Ibn Taymiyyah (1263 – 1328 CE)

“The verse [4:158] “He raised him to His Presence” … explains that Jesus عليه السلام was raised in both body and soul.” (Imam Ibn Taymiyya, Majmu’ Fatawa, trans. by Abdurrahman ibn Muhammad ibn Qasim al-Asimi an-Najdi, 4:323)

8th Century: Ibn Hajar al-Asqalānī (1372/773 – 1448/852 CE/AH)

“The Mahdi is of this Ummah, and that Jesus عليه السلام will come down and pray behind him.” (Fath al-Baari, v.5, p.362)

“…there was no Prophet between Jesus عليه السلام and our Prophet [Muhammad], on whom peace and blessings of Allah and Jesus عليه السلام has no grave.” (Fath al-Baari 2/160, Kitabul Salaah)

9th Century: Jalāluddīn al-Suyūtī (1445/849 – 1505/911 CE/AH)

“As-Suyuti says Jerusalem is specially honored by Moslems… It was at Jerusalem that the prophets sacrificed; that Jesus was born and spoke in the his cradle; and it was from Jerusalem that Jesus ascended to heaven; and it will be there that he will again descend.” (A Moslem Seeker After God, Samuel M. Zwemer, p.115)

In his commentary, al-Suyuti said, based on reliable hadith, that the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) did not die, and then continued: “In that case, Jesus عليه السلام was raised to the skies and will return before the Day of Judgment.” (Durr al-Manthur, 2:225-27)

“This word [kahlaan] expresses the fact that he (Jesus عليه السلام) will descend from the heavens before the Day of Judgment, because he was raised to the skies before attaining old age.” (Tafsīr al-Jalālayn; Surah al-Ma’ida (5):110, 1:447)

11th Century: Rabbānī Shaykh Ahmad al-Farūqī al-Sirhindī Mujaddid Alf Thānī (1564 – 1624 CE)

“Jesus عليه السلام will descend from the sky and will be a member of Prophet Muhammad’s (may God bless him and grant him peace) community. In other words, he will be one of his people and will abide by the Divine law.” (Letters of Rabbānī (Istanbul: 1977), 1:436, 545, 722, 820, 846)

12th Century: Shah Walīullah Dehlwī (1703 – 1762 CE)

“None of the People of the Book will remain without believing in him before he dies and Jesus will remain a witness unto them” [exegetical note] “The Jews present at the time of the descent of Jesus Christ will definitely believe in him.” (Fath ur Rahmān Fee Tarjumatul Qur’ān, 4:159)

Each one of these personalities, among them some of the most distinguished exemplars in Islam declared their belief in the ascension or descent of ‘Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام. It is outside the scope of this article to list their extensive knowledge of the deen. The fact that they are listed as mujaddids should suffice in elucidating their grand status of scholarship in view of the Ahmadiyya. Their statements above however are in clear contradiction to the core foundation of the Ahmadiyya religion as the founder Mirza Ghulam Ahmad writes:

“It would, therefore, be a daring invention to say that the bodily ascent of Jesus (as) to heaven and his expected descent has been a matter of consensus.” (Kitab-ul-Bariyyah, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 13, pp. 221 footnote)

“We have established fully that the belief that Jesus had ascended bodily to heaven is not  supported by the Holy Qur’an and true Ahadith. It seems to be based upon senseless and contradictory speculation… If these meaningless speculations were to be presented to the illiterate Bedouins of Arabia, or the inhabitants of the deserts of Africa, or the wild dwellers of the far off islands in the oceans, they might gain some acceptance; but we cannot hope to propagate among educated people such doctrines as are utterly opposed to reason, experience, laws of nature and philosophy.” (Izala-e-Auham, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 3, pp. 235-236)

“…Read the Holy Qur’an carefully and you will find the death of Jesus mentioned so clearly and definitely that it is not possible to interpret it otherwise.” (Izala-e-Auham, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 3, p.224)

“…How misguided, therefore, are those who are waiting to see Jesus descend from heaven in the company of angels.” (Majmu‘ah Ishtiharat, vol. 3, p.327)

“…It is rude to say that Jesus didn’t die, it is indeed shirk al-akbar [major polytheism].” (Roohani Khazain, Volume 22, Haqiqat-Ul-Wahi, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, p.660)

This therefore establishes that in Ahmadiyya the above personalities are mushriks [polytheists] and yet they are declared mujaddids [reformers] hence making them mushrikun mujaddid [polytheist reformers] an oxymoron in as much Ahmadiyya Islam is an oxymoron. They are declared misguided by a man who couldn’t compare to their great status, a man who didn’t even take the time to memorise the Book of Allah (Seeratul Mahdi, Volume 3, Narration #553, p.44) but rather spent a life boasting of his greatness (Kashti-e-Nuh, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 19, p.60).

The belief with regard to Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام  and his return is firmly established in Islam through the Holy Qur’an and many sayings of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم and his Companions radhiallahu ‘anhum as well the tabi’un (the generation born after the passing of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم but lived as contemporaries of the Companions radhiallahu ‘anhum) and the tabi’ tabi’un (the generation after the tabi’un) in addition to the mujaddids of the past and many great scholars of Islam. There is no such thing as mushrikun mujaddids yet they exist in Ahmadiyya. The fact of the matter is that they do not have any mujaddids because they have to label the same names as mushriks for their beliefs as they oppose the core tenets of Ahmadiyya. The reason this fallacy is apparent is because Ahmadiyya has no connection with the glorious past of the mujaddids of Islam including the aforementioned list and those not mentioned on the list who were sent in the ummah of the beloved master, Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم. Ahmadiyya is a novel religion posing under the guise of Islam in the form of a parasite.

May Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ protect us and grant us knowledge in His deen and keep us on the right path, the path of the righteous, the path of His beloved Prophet, Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم on whom I would request everyone to recite salutations, may Allah grant him eternal peace and immense blessings.

“Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.” (The Holy Qur’an, Surah al-Ahzab (33); Ayah 56; Translation: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

The Shirk of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad

Shirk is regarded as a major sin in Islam and the chief major sin among the group. Shirk is the concept of the sin of polytheism specifically, and refers to worshipping other than Allah (SWT), associating partners with Him, giving His characteristics to other than Him, or not believing in His characteristics and Allah (SWT) knows best.

“Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and forgives what is besides that to whomsoever He pleases; and whoever associates anything with Allah, he devises indeed a great sin.”(The Holy Qur’an, Surah An-Nisa (4) Ayah 48)

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself acknowledges this as he says,

“…God will forgive every sin for whomsoever He wills, but He will not forgive Shirk – associating anything with Him.” (The Essence Of Islam, Volume 1, Page 89)

In 1907, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad gave a ruling on a belief that he considered was shirk.

“…It is rude to say that Jesus didn’t die, and it is indeed major shirk”. (Roohani Khazain, Volume 22, Haqiqat-Ul-Wahi, Page 660)

This is his opinion, his fatwa if you will that if an individual is holding such a belief then s/he is committing a grave sin in the form of shirk. However, earlier in his life in the year 1880, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad says,

“….But as a body of Muslims was firmly of the faith – and I too believed – that Jesus (AS) would descend from heaven… my earlier belief… which I had set down in Brahin-e-Ahmadiyyah… I was (then) convinced by several conclusive verses that Jesus Son of Mary (AS) had indeed died” (The Essence Of Islam, Volume 4, Page 46)

This is reiterated by A.R. Dard in his biography of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.

“Ahmad (as) reiterated in the Brahin-e-Ahmadiyya, published in 1884, the popular belief that Jesus (as) was alive in the heavens and that he would come again to this world… It was in 1891, when God informed Ahmad (as) that Jesus (as) had died, that he changed his belief in this respect.” (Life Of Ahmad, Page 50 by A.R. Dard)

These standards of shirk were set by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself, not me, not you, not his opponents or anyone else for that matter. He believed it was shirk that Hazrat Isa (AS) was alive up until 1891. Therefore at least during the first fifty-six years of his life and the first fifteen years after supposedly being assigned as a “prophet”, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad believed Hazrat Isa (AS) was alive and was, in his own words, committing an unforgivable sin in the form of shirk.

If any Ahmadi can prove otherwise, I will remove this blog entry. This does not mean resorting to an ad-hominem argument by insulting me, attempting to belittle me or attacking what I believe and above all trying to find fault with the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) which many Ahmadi do when confronted by such a predicament.

It is as simple as this, did Mirza Ghulam Ahmad commit shirk? Do you believe it is possible for a Prophet of Allah (SWT) to commit shirk, the most heinous of sins, not only for a matter of seconds but a matter of years? If you believe he didn’t, please provide an explanation in light of the information above and I must reiterate, address the argument and the facts not the man.

Above all please do not insult the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by suggesting guidance on this matter was not available or that he (SAW) erred in his life. In addition to this whether Jesus (AS) is alive or dead is secondary so please do not divert the topic. The matter we are discussing is shirk and the admission of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad that he was indulging in what he considered beliefs comprising shirk.

May Allah (SWT) guide us to the truth. Ameen.

The Last Avatar

In one of the many claims made by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, he declares himself the ‘Hindu avatar‘ awaited by the adherents of Hindusim. However, there seems to be an inconsistency in his claim. This particular contradiction highlights his understanding or as some may more accurately argue, deception, of the word ‘last’. He made the following claim in the year 1900.

“There is a prophecy in Hindu scriptures that in the latter days an Avatar would appear, who will possess the qualities of Krishna and will be his reflection. It has been conveyed to me that I am that person”. (Tadhkirah, 2009 Edition – Page 486)

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was adamant that he was the awaited avatar for the Hindus. Many Ahmadiyya arranged events hold up banners reading, ‘Krishna has arrived’ a misconception in itself, pushing forth the belief that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad came to guide the Hindus as stated below in 1904.

“…my advent in the present age is not for the reformation of the Muslims alone, but I have come to reform the people of all the three religions: Muslims, Christians and Hindus. Just as God has appointed me the Promised Messiah for the Muslims and Christians, so am I the Avatar for the Hindus”. (Lecture Sialkot, Page – 38/39)

However, if he was the awaited avatar for the religion of Hinduism as he claims then how do Ahmadis reconcile this with the following statement?

“…Nanak undoubtedly came as a blessing to the Hindus. He was, as it were, the last Avatar of the Hindu religion”. (A Message Of Peace, Page – 6)

Guru Nanak was born in the year 1469CE, approximately 370 years before Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. He died in the year 1539CE at the age of 69 and is the founder of Sikhism. The above translation is taken from the Lahori branch of Ahmadiyya, the Qadiani branch have translated the above as “the last bearer of a message from God for Hinduism” which in effect has the same undertone as declaring Guru Nanak the last avatar for the Hindu religion. The Qadiani translation is some what of a mystery as the Urdu transliteration (thanks to brother Zia Ahmad) reads “...aur yoon shamjo whoa Hindu mazhab ka akhri avatar tha. Jis nay is nafrat ko dur karna chaha tha jo Islam kay mutalq Hindion kay dilon mein thee(Roohani Khazain, Paigham-i-Sulh, Volume 23, Page 446) which quite clearly translates as “…he was like last avatar of Hinduism”. It is quite strange that the Qadiani branch have translated this differently leaving out the word ‘avatar’ altogether. This book, as stated in the introduction of both versions, is the last written work of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.

Conclusion
If Guru Nanak is the “last bearer of a message from God for Hinduism” and thus “the last avatar of the Hindu religion” then where does that leave Mirza Ghulam Ahmad? Prior to declaring Guru Nanak the last avatar of the Hindu religion, he himself declared that he was the avatar for the Hindus. It is almost as if the word ‘last’ has lost all meaning in Ahmadiyya. You cannot help but contrast how Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in the early stages of his life believed as all Muslims believe that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the last of the Prophets but then went on to declare that he is a Prophet himself abolishing his earlier belief and destroying all meaning of the word ‘last’ as he does in a less cunning manner with this claim. The Hindu religion is awaiting the return of their tenth and last avatar (who is in actual fact referred to as ‘Kalki‘ not ‘Krishna‘, a completely different entity) and if as per Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, Guru Nanak is that ‘last avatar‘ then he diminishes his own claim of being the awaited Hindu avatar himself.

The blind argument that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad declared Guru Nanak to be the last avatar prior to claiming that he himself was an avatar is effortlessly refuted. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed he was an avatar in 1900 prior to declaring Guru Nanak the last avatar in 1908. The movement constantly produces oxymoron’s which a majority of their followers know nothing about, this is just another example. In conclusion, the question remains, who is the last avatar? Is it Mirza Ghulam Ahmad or is it Guru Nanak? Either answer would contradict the belief of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad yet in Ahmadiyya the answer can only be one of the two.

May Allah (SWT) guide the Ahmadis back to Islam. All praise is due to Allah (SWT).

Queen Victoria – A Muslimah?

Alexandrina Victoria (1819-1901) was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from the 20th of June 1837, and the first Empress of India of the British Raj from the 1st of May 1876, until her death. She became the Queen at the tender age of 18 and her reign lasted 63 years and 7 months making her the longest reigning British monarch. The time of her reign is known as the Victorian era, a period of industrial, political, scientific and military progress within the United Kingdom. She died from declining health on the 22nd of January 1901, succeeded by Edward VII.

Queen Victoria had many titles included in her name and after the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the Government of India was transferred from the East India Company to the Crown and in 1877 Victoria became ‘Empress of India’ under the Royal Titles Act. She was also known as ‘Defender of the Faith’ due to her position as head of the Church of England, and she was also known as the ‘Supreme Governor of the Church of England’.

However, despite her clear allegiance to Christianity and her position as head of the Church of England, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was of the following belief:

“The honourable Queen, of whom we are the members of her country, chooses Islam in her heart rather than any other religion. I even heard more than this but I don’t want to mention it. However, the conclusion is that she is generous and Allah (SWT) has put the love of Islam in her heart and she wishes that Islam would spread in her country.” (Roohani Khazain, Hamama-tul-Bushra, Volume 7, Page 229/300)

The above statement by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad from ‘Hamama-tul-Bushra’ was made in 1894 and he unequivocally claims that Queen Victoria is a Muslimah. However, on the occasion of the ‘Diamond Jubilee’ to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote a letter entitled ‘Tohfai Qaisariyya’, translated as ‘A Present to the Queen’. This letter which took the form of a book concluded with a prayer offered for the Queen. This prayer was published in Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, Arabic and English at the end of the book.

“…we earnestly ask Thee all powerful Lord to grant us one more prayer that our benefactoress the Empress, before leaving this world, may probe her way out of the darkness of man-worship…” (Rohaani Khazain, Volume 12, Tauhfa Qaisiria, Page 299)

There is a glaring inconsistency within this letter which is dated 23rd June 1897. In this letter Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is asking for one more prayer to the effect that the Queen, prior to her demise, leaves the falsehood of Christianity. However, just three years preceding this prayer/letter Mirza Ghulam Ahmad explicitly declared that this had been achieved as the Queen “chooses Islam in her heart rather than any other religion”. If that were true then how could he accuse her of being in the “darkness of man-worship”? Quite clearly Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had forgotten about his previous statement whereby his God allegedly told him that the Queen was a Muslimah. Is this something you would expect from one who claims he is divinely guided?

To serve as a reminder, he also had the following ‘revelation’:

I shall accept all your prayers but not in the matter of your collaterals. (Tadhkirah, 2009 Edition, Page 33)

Aside from the clear contradiction, was this prayer accepted? Did Queen Victoria become Muslim? Queen Victoria was at no point a Muslimah and Allah (SWT) knows best. She personally had the following inscribed above the mausoleum of her final resting place:

Years later, when Canon (later Dean) Farrar served the Queen as chaplain, he visited her when she was sick. She had been reading a leaflet on the return of Christ and said, “Chaplain, what do you think about the return of Christ?” It is not known what the chaplain answered, but when he left he said, “Your Majesty, why have you asked me that?” “Oh,” she said, “I wish that He returns while I am still alive, because nothing would give me more joy than to pass on the crown of Great Britain and India to Him with my own hands.” In her youth, with most of her life still ahead of her, she crowned Jesus King of Kings and Lord or Lords; and then much later, in her latter years, with grey hair and with the many sorrows that she had borne, she wanted to give Him every crown that God had given her. When you grow older you might have less strength, but you have got more that makes you happy and more that you can share.

I think we can all agree that at no point did Queen Victoria hand over the Crown to Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. He of course made her well aware that he fulfilled the prophecy regarding the return of Hazrat Isa (AS) in his book ‘Tohfai Qaisariyya‘ as well as other numerous letters. One must consider, if she did not proceed to hand over the Crown to him then quite clearly she did not believe he was the second coming of Hazrat Isa (AS), thus she rejected his claim. With this in mind recall that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has stated that “God Almighty has disclosed to me that whoever has been apprised of my advent and does not accept me is not a Muslim and is accountable to God.” Therefore even his initial claim that God told him she is a Muslimah is pure deception even in terms of Ahmadiyya as she does not meet the Ahmadiyya criteria to be considered within the fold of Islam. Moreover, Allah (SWT) caused him to forget his claim that the Queen is a Muslimah and this was exposed three years after his initial claim in that he requested in a prayer that she leave “the darkness of man-worship” though according to Mirza Ghulam Ahmad she was already following Islam. This is not mockery, this is a reminder to Ahmadis to come back to Islam and leave the falsehood of Ahmadiyya.

May Allah (SWT) guide the Ahmadis back to Islam. All praise is due to Allah (SWT).

Masih Ad-Dajjal – The Anti-Christ

The term ‘Masih Ad-Dajjal’ is Arabic for the ‘False Messiah’. It is believed that he will appear at the end of times before the Day of Judgment deceiving people to believe that he is actually the true Messiah. The word ‘Dajjal’ means ‘deceiver’ and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned that Dajjal will serve as a colossal trial for humanity. In the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Dajjal has been described as follows:

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 553:
Narrated Ibn Umar:
Once Allah’s Apostle stood amongst the people, glorified and praised Allah as He deserved and then mentioned the Dajjal saying, “l warn you against him (i.e. the Dajjal) and there was no prophet but warned his nation against him. No doubt, Noah warned his nation against him but I tell you about him something of which no prophet told his nation before me. You should know that he is one-eyed, and Allah is not one-eyed.”

Book 041, Number 6995:
Narrated Abu Sa’id Khudri:
Ibn Sa’id said to me something for which I felt ashamed. He said: I can excuse others; but what has gone wrong with you, O Companions of Muhammad, that you take me as Dajjal? Has Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) not said that he would be a Jew whereas I am a Muslim and he also said that he would not have children, whereas I have children, and he also said: verily, Allah has prohibited him to enter Mecca whereas I have performed Pilgrimage, and he went on saying this that I was about to be impressed by his talk. He (however) said this also: I know where he (Dajjal) is and I know his father and mother, and it was said to him: Won’t you feel pleased if you would be the same person? Thereupon he said: If this offer is made to me, I would not resent that.

Narrated Anas b. Malik:
That Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: There is never a prophet who has not warned the Ummah of that one-eyed liar; behold he is one-eyed and your Lord is not one-eyed. On his forehead are the letters k f. r. (Kafir).

Narrated An-Nawwas b. Sam’an:
That Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) made a mention of the Dajjal one day in the morning… He (Dajjal) would be a young man with twisted, contracted hair, and a blind eye. I compare him to ‘Abd-ul-‘Uzza b. Qatan. He who amongst you would survive to see him should recite over him the opening verses of Sura Kahf (xviii.). He would appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and would spread mischief right and left… and it would at this very time that Allah would send Christ, son of Mary, and he will descend at the white minaret in the eastern side of Damascus wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he would lower his head, there would fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he would raise it up, beads like pearls would scatter from it… and then Allah would send Gog and Magog and they would swarm down from every slope…

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad however proposes that Ad-Dajjal is not a human being in so far as referring to one person; he believes that the description given by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is metaphorical in nature and not literal. However, a careful analysis shows that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is indecisive on this issue regardless of his interpretation of the ahadith and his argument makes no sense as will be proven.

…in Arabic Dajjal also connotes a group. If Dajjal is taken to mean someone other than the misguided preachers of Christianity, this would entail a contradiction… the two are one and the same…Dajjal is not the name of one man. (The Essence Of Islam Volume 3 – Page 280)

It is quite clear that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad believes that other than the clergyman of Christianity, no one else can be termed Dajjal and it is undoubtedly in reference to a group, not one person. However, he then begins adding more groups to this:

However he settles on the Christian preachers as the Dajjal and opposing this opinion, according to Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, is to deny the Holy Qu’ran.

There is no Dajjal-e-Akbar (Great Dajjal) than Christian Priests and he who waits for another one after the appearance of this turmoil is denying the Qu’ran. (Roohani Khazain, Anjaam Aatham – Volume 11 – Page 47)

But in the end, as was his habit, he contradicts himself and goes against the Holy Qu’ran according to his own qualifications as he states:

This is our faith that actually Dajjal is the ‘Ism-e-Azam’ of Satan, which is opposed to the ‘Ism-e-Azam’ of God which is ‘Allah al-Hayee al-Qayoom’. This research proves that in reality neither Jews can be called Dajjal, or Christian Priests or any other nation. (Roohani Khazain, Toufah-Golravea – Volume 17 – Page 269)

‘Izm’ means great and ‘Azzam’ means name. However, more importantly note the fact that he initially claims that the Christian priests are Dajjal and to deny this is to deny the Holy Qu’ran and then note how he claims that his later research proves that in reality neither Jews can be called Dajjal, or Christian priests or any other nation.

Conclusion
The problem Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had was that it was prophecised the Messiah would destroy the Anti-Christ, therefore Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had to, one way or another, attempt to fulfill this prophecy. Below he affirms that this is indeed his task:

The Holy Qur’an unambiguously designates the Christian clergy as the greatest Dajjal… the Hadith also specifies that the true sign of the Promised Messiah would be that he would break the cross and slay the great Dajjal… the main objective of the Promised Messiah is the breaking of the cross and slaying of the great Dajjal. Please see the video ‘Breaking the Cross’ by brother Shahid to see how he fails in his attempt to fulfill the first prophecy in his quote. The second prophecy of slaying Dajjal meant he had to move away from the conventional view that Dajjal will be a man who will deceive people to believe that he is the Messiah as no one would fit the description, thus he interpreted that Dajjal was in reference to the Christian clergy. The reason why his story about Dajjal connoting a group, specifically the Christian priests does not add up is quite simply because they have existed for so long. They did not suddenly appear at the time of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. My point is that during the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) such clergyman existed, yet at no point did the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) declare them to be Dajjal. Is Mirza Ghulam Ahmad alleging he knows better?

God, the Sublime, has taught us through Surah Fatiha that Dajjal against whom we have been warned is the group of erring Christian Missionaries who have abandoned the way of Jesus. (Commentary On Surah Fatiha – Page 347)

If I understand him correctly, he is alleging that the opening chapter of the Holy Qu’ran, Surah Fatiha, has forewarned us that the Dajjal is none other than the Christian missionaries. One question, did he know and understand the Holy Qu’ran better than the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW)? Of course not, then why did the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) not inform us that this was the case if it was contained within the first chapter of the Holy Qu’ran? Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has a blasphemous answer for this:

It should not be surprising if the complete truth regarding Ibne Maryam (Jesus) and Dajjal was not revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) because of lack of any exact prototype. Neither did the true meanings of the 70 Ba’a (1 Ba’a = 4 arm length = about 280 yards) and nor did Allah’s revelation guide him (SAW) towards the deep mystery of Gog and Magog and nor the exact composition of Da’abatul Ardh (Beast of the Earth) was revealed. Right, so the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did not understand what Mirza Ghulam Ahmad understood? Allah (SWT) did not guide the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in understanding the mysteries of the events preceding Qiyamah but Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was given that knowledge?

Dajjaliyat (Qualities of Dajjal) was actually a Jewish inheritance and from them it reached the Christians. That group is called Dajjal who are liars and make the earth filthy and mix the truth with falsehood. So this quality was at its peak among the Jews during the time of Jesus, then Christians inherited it from them. So the Messiah has descended with a heavenly weapon to abolish this Dajjal quality. This weapon is not made by earthly craftsmen; rather it is heavenly weapon as is proven by Sahih Ahadith. (Roohani Khazain, Izala Auham – Volume 3 – Page 174)

This again does not add up as the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) at no point said such a thing and he lived among the Christians and the Jews. As a matter of fact the first Muslims to migrate from Arabia were sent to Negus Al-Najashi, the Christian King of Abyssinia (modern day Ethiopia). Would the Ahmadis contend that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was sending them to Dajjal? Observe the following hadith:

Book 001, Number 0296:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed: When three things appear faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjal, and the beast of the earth.

Therefore, according to Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, ever since the appearance of the Christian priests it is no good for a believer to believe if he did not believe before. The other two signs (sun rising from its place of setting and the beast of the earth) have already occurred according to Ahmadiyya interpretation. The sun rising from the west supposedly means nations from the west will partake in Islam, this of course has already happened as one only needs to look at Spain which was a Muslim nation for 800 years, producing saints such as Ibn Arabi. The beast of the earth according to Ahmadiyya interpretation is in reference to the bubonic plague which of course occurred at the time of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Thus the three parts in the hadith have been fulfilled and accordingly if you did not believe before, it is no good to believe now. This of course is nonsense and again destroys the argument brought forth by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. The ahadith explicitly indicate he is one individual and anyone who reads the ahadith below can understand this:

Book 37, Number 4306:
Narrated Ubadah ibn as-Samit:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I have told you so much about the Dajjal (Antichrist) that I am afraid you may not understand. The Antichrist is short, hen-toed, woolly-haired, one-eyed, an eye-sightless, and neither protruding nor deep-seated. If you are confused about him, know that your Lord is not one-eyed.

Could the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) make it any clearer? Did Christian priests, philosophers or other nations not exist in his blessed time? Of course they did, but at no point did he declare any one of them to be the Dajjal or have qualities of the Dajjal of the latter days. What the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did say was:

Book 37, Number 4319:
Narrated Abu Hurayrah:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The Last Hour will not come before there come forth thirty Dajjals (fraudulents), everyone presuming himself that he is an apostle of Allah.

Sahih Bukhari
Volume 3, Book 30, Number 106:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
Allah’s Apostle told us a long narrative about Ad-Dajjal, and among the many things he mentioned, was his saying, “Ad-Dajjal will come and it will be forbidden for him to pass through the entrances of Medina. He will land in some of the salty barren areas (outside) Medina; on that day the best man or one of the best men will come up to him and say, ‘I testify that you are the same Dajjal whose description was given to us by Allah’s Apostle.’ Ad-Dajjal will say to the people, ‘If I kill this man and bring him back to life again, will you doubt my claim?’ They will say, ‘No.’ Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that man and bring him back to life. That man will say, ‘Now I know your reality better than before.’ Ad-Dajjal will say, ‘I want to kill him but I cannot.’

Undoubtedly, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself was confused on this matter. The theories he brings forward do not reconcile with, and are not supported by, the ahadith. To demonstrate his confusion and contradiction further, he declared the following:

Another proof (of being Promised Messiah) is that the band of Dajjal has appeared and it is emerging with great force and its donkey, which is actually created by him, as is desired by Sahih Hadith is roaming in the East and West, and the creation of that donkey by Dajjal which is according to the Hadith, is also proven by this evidence that if such a donkey had been born as usual from the belly of female donkey then such type of other donkeys should have still been here since young ones necessarily resembles their parents in their size and journey and power. Thus Sahih Hadith are pointing towards this that the donkey will be created by Dajjal himself, thus if it is not Railway Train then what else is it? (Roohani Khazain, Izala Auham – Volume 3 – Page 469/70)

In spite of considering the railway train as the creation of Dajjal and regarding it as his donkey, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad never hesitated in riding it whenever he was traveling long distances. He was obviously questioned about this and in turn he states the following to justify the use of the railway train:

If the donkey of Maseeh Dajjal is this railway train… and he who claims to be the Promised Messiah also rides it, then how can it be Dajjal’s donkey? Answer is that because of its ownership, possession and total custody and creation of Band of Dajjal, it is called donkey of Dajjal…. then if God wants believers to benefit from the possessions and products of Dajjal then what is the harm?….. Apart from that Promised Messiah is the killer of Dajjal spiritually, then according to the Hadith ‘mun qatala qateelun’ whatever belongs to Dajjal, it belongs to Messiah. The ideas put forward by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad are flawed from every plausible angle. He declares Christian priests to be Dajjal, something the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did not say, and claims if this is not accepted then one is going against the Holy Qu’ran. He then, later in his life, claims that Dajjal cannot be the Christian priests yet not realising that he is going against the Holy Qu’ran according to his own standards by making such a proclamation. If Christian priests were the Dajjal then why was the Messiah not dispensed as soon as they appeared? Mirza Ghulam Ahmad also declares that the railway trains are a product of Dajjal but since he uses it himself, it is fine to do so. Quite clearly Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was one of the false prophets that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forewarned us about. The false Messiah, Ad-Dajjal is not in reference to Christian nations or priests or philosophers. The ahadith that upon the appearance of Dajjal, if you did not believe before it is no good to believe then, is enough to destroy his theory. The only way the Ahmadiyya community and Mirza Ghulam Ahmad could resolve this problem is by alleging that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had more knowledge about this issue than the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of course has no problem implying this, do you, the Ahmadi community concur with his blasphemous assessment?
