Mujaddid Alf Thani and Finality of Prophethood

بسم الله الحمد لله و صلاة و سلام على رسول الله و على آله و سلم

Lately I found an Ahmadi site insinuating that Mujaddid Alf Thani, Imam Rabbani Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi (d. 1034 A.H.) believed in continuity of prophethood for the followers of the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him.

They misuse a couple of lines from one of his Maktubat (letters).

The text in question:

In his letter # 301 addressed to his son, Maulana Amanullah he says:

پس حصول کمالات نبوّت مر تابعان را بطریق تبیعت و وراثت بعد از بعثت ختم الرسل علیه وعلی آلہ وعلی جمیع الانبیاء والرسل الصلوات والتحیات منافی خاتمیت او نیست علیه و علی آلہ الصلوۃ وسلام فلا تکن من الممترین

“So for the followers to attain the wonders of prophethood (kamalat nubuwwat) by way of following and inheritance after the coming of the Last Prophet –on him and his followers and all the prophets be the peace and salutations- is not in contradiction to his finality. So be not of those who doubt.”

The trick:

Ahmadi leaders resort to the age old deceit of isolating the text from the context and abusing it in translation. As given above it actually reads حصول کمالات نبوّت which means “to attain wonders of prophethood” and they make it “The rising of prophethood.” Anyone with elementary knowledge of Persian and even Urdu will catch this trick.

Putting text into the context:

Here I give the translation of what the learned Shaykh said before coming to the text in question.

Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. After the praises (due to Allah) and the salutations (due to the Holy Prophet). My son, Amanullah ought to know, Prophethood (nubuwwah) is about closeness to Allah which does not have even a remote connection to the idea of “zill”. It ascends to Almighty Allah and descends towards the creation. This closeness in essence belongs to the Prophets –on them be the peace and blessings- and this rank (mansab) is exclusive to those godly men –may the peace and blessings be upon them. And the Leader of Mankind (i.e. the Holy Prophet) –on him be the peace and salutations- is the final seal of this rank. After his descent ‘Eisa will follow the shar’iah of Khatam al-Rusul –on them both be the peace and salutations. The point here is that followers also have their share. And by the way of inheritance the followers also find their share from the wisdom, gnosis and wonders of this station (‘uloom o ma’arif wa kamalaat aan maqam).

So for the followers to attain the wonders of prophethood (kamalat nubuwwat) by way of following and inheritance after the coming of the Last Prophet –on him and his followers and all the prophets be the peace and salutations- is not in contradiction to his finality. So be not of those who doubt.”

After this Imam Rabbani discusses how one may find his share from this blessed inheritance. And towards the end of the letter he writes;

“One must know that attaining to this blessing is direct for the prophets –on them be the peace and blessings. And for the companions (sahaba) of the prophets who attain this wealth though inheritance and following it is through the prophets –on them be the peace and blessings. Those who received this wealth after the prophets and their companions are rare although it is possible that someone else may also be blessed with this wealth through inheritance or by having followed.

I think this wealth was available to the earliest tabi’in, and was given to the senior taba’ tabi’in too. Thereafter this wealth became extinct till it came to the second millennium after the Holy Prophet –on him and his followers be the peace and blessings. Even now this wealth has become visible through following and succession. And the last of the times have been made akin to the earliest days.”

(See Maktubat Imam Rabbani, Hakikat Ketabevi, Istanbul, 1977 Maktub # 301 pp. 636-639)

Important points from the above:

Now the text put into context shows us;

1- The rank (mansab) of Prophethood is exclusive to prophets and it was sealed by the Holy Prophet –may Allah bless him.

2- Some of the followers of the prophets do however find share from the wonders, wisdom and gnosis of prophethood.

3- The wonders, wisdom and gnosis of prophethood were attained by the companions of the prophets too and we know none of the companion is considered a prophet by anyone including Ahmadis.

4- Earliest tabi’in and even the senior taba’ tabi’in did also receive this wealth and certainly none of them was a prophet.

5- To Imam Rabbani even in his time i.e. beginning of the second millennium, some people were blessed with this wealth.

Conclusion:

Clearly it implies a manifest difference between “rank” (mansab) of prophethood and the “share from the wonders, wisdom and gnosis” of prophethood. Trying to achieve its ignoble end, the Ahmadiyya religious elite deliberately confuses the two to fool common-place Ahmadis and deceive the Muslims.

If it is taken to mean prophethood then it would imply that companions, tabi’in, taba’ tabi’in and even later people were also prophets. The absurdity of which is too evident to require any elucidation. And certainly it was never the intent of the learned Imam who was only showing that even though after the Holy Prophet –may Allah bless him- one cannot rise to the rank of prophets he can achieve certain blessings of the status by following and by the way of spiritual inheritance.

I believe it’s the time the common Ahmadis must exercise their right to question Murabbis and Jamaat leaders about such intellectual foul play and lies. And also ponder as to what cost they pay by following these people? Think!

Indeed Allah knows the best!

  1. When I was researching for my book, I encountered two things with quotes:
    A) Complete mistranslations
    B) Isolation from the earlier context
    C) Distortions of what the author intended

Double-check the quotes they’re provided and question the Murabbis!

      • this is a weak and baseless point, many Ahmadi’s have studied Arabic, Urdu, Persian and so fort we can go to the original texts and check for ourselevs do you really think that all the Murabbis who have spent seven years studying all the above did not read ” Maktubat Imam Rabbani Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi Faruqi

        (rahmatullah alaih)

work and if there were twisting of texts it would not be found please lol

        Umar

        • I do not merely think but it is my conviction that Murabbis who bring this have certainly read it and they, on purpose, lie to deceive common Ahmadis who tend to trust them.

Take this case as an example. Dig out the thing for yourself, and then either accept what you have been told or show to the contrary.

          • Can you read Persian Waqar? Or indeed Arabic your translation of wonders is questionable! Whereas the use of the word ‘ rising is means to attain which is in English very correct! concerning your conviction well I know many Murrabi’s whom many of them have Masters in Arabic, Persian, Urdu so I make my point again, if what you are saying is ‘ they all knowingly lie about the true translation or twist its true interpretation of the meaning just to misguide the masses’ please!!!! lol many of us who may not be a Murrabi have chosen to study Arabic, Persian, Urdu and many other languages like Greek, Hebrew and so forth at University level so that we go to the sources ourselves so come on! Get real! Your conviction is baseless.

            Umar

          • @ Umar

Ahmadis have a history of mis-translations. MGAQ started them in 1891, he purposely mis-translated LO NA LO HU, RAFFA, MUTAWAFEEKA, etc etc etc.

Then Mahmud Ahmad writes that Akhira means “the revelation to come”. Really???

If your cult has a history of this type of behavior, what should we assume?

          • Umar bro u missed a simple point that is context

now as u can see Ahmed Sirindi talks about such blessing being given to companions and ppl after them

do u or ur jammat believe there was any other prophet other than MGA during last 1400 years? NO

So that makes it clear that Mujadid Alif Thani is not talking about ppl becoming PROPHETS.

So plz be honest with ur self and think and read

        • Umar:

We are saying they they have read those books
and intentionally misquotes and quote out of context.

So please c for your self we dont ask us to believe it but u can check and verify ur self from authentic source 🙂

          • xiaahmad my point is I have read for myself!!!! all your arguments and many others and all I see is that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has a case and are correct in their conclusions. The ludicrous belief that all the Murrabi’s delude so many people is just insane, and is an immense lie!!! and you guys dont get it! it is clear to see that you guys are lying or you are truly ignorant of the facts.

            Umar

          • Again if u want to disprove it come with proof we have given the proof and the context which totally destroy Jammat’s trick.

so either ur in denial or u really dont know

            think plz

          • Umar ur accusing us of lying without any proof…but at same time u unwilling to read the proofs.

which clearly shows that jammat is trying to misquote Mujadid Alif thani.

there is no cure of denial but u have to think about it for ur self proofs have been given

          • @ Xia

Umar needs cessation treatment. He has a hard time understanding that his prophet and sons lied to him. I had a hard time believing that as well.

            @ Umar

Spend more time with us. You will learn.

  2. @Umar, your defence of these blatant distortions is void. You merely claim some people are trustworthy when others have proved their claims are not. This is based purely on ‘trust’ not evidence/argument. Christians ‘trust’ their scholars when they distort and twist the Bible for their misguidance in believing in the trinity, this is no different.

Everything in the Quran and Sunnah proves that prophethood has ended. There is NO EXPLICIT statement from the Quran or sunnah that another prophet will come but there are 100s of EXPLICIT verses and ahadith that prove prophethood has ended. It is only because of this that Ahmadi elders need to try and distort statements from scholars whose works are not accessible to the common folk to keep their congregation funding them.

Umar my advise to you is to base your belief on a firm grounding. Base aspects of your beleif only on EXPLICIT verses from the quran and sunnah which are accessible to all( khatam an Nabiyeen,’there is no prophet after me’) not on obscure statements for which you have to rely on ‘trust’. If your approach was correct even Christians would be able to have an excuse on the day of judgement, which obviously is not the case.

    May Allah guide us all.

  3. xiaahmad & Rationalist

you both need to learn how to read english or would you prefer urdu or Arabic?

I xia I have read the proofs (so called) not once but many times long before this site was created!!! Imam Rabbani is clear you can attain Prophet-hood without changing the high status of the Khatam Nabieen, that is why he said

‘ Those who received this wealth after the prophets and their companions are rare although it is possible that someone else may also be blessed with this wealth through inheritance or by having followed.”

what is the wealth or the inheritance but becoming a prophet while being a follower of the Holy Prophet (saw) they those who are obeadient to the Holy Prophet (saw) inherit the title or office of Nabuwwat’ this what Imam Rabbani is saying perhaps you guys need to go to spec savers lol

    Umar

    • as I said can u plz any other Prophet after Prophet Muhammad (PUBH) coz he clearly talks about these blessings being given to Companions and ppl after that???

So those who received this wealth plz name them. you answer will be reply to ur question and prove ur jammat fake.

SO WHY R U IN DENIAL?

ur belief is there is no other prophet except MGA after Prophet Muhammad (PUBH) is not consitent with statements of Imam Rabbani

        • It can be true dream Mushabath, knowledge, status etc BUT

u Didny answer Imam Rabani believes other ppl received the blessings so according to ur jammat argument Imam Rabani believe those ppl to be PROPHETS.

So ur answer will refute Jammat’s argument:
Are these people whom Imam said received these blessing are PROPHET according to u?

and who are these coz u believe that it means prophethood and Imam Rabbani says different ppl receive it and we know that he didnt believe in ANY of those ppl to be PROPHET 🙂

SO THAT IS CLEARLY MISQUOTING IMAM RABANI by ur JAMMAT

          • the Jamaat is not misqouting Imam Rabbani it means a prophet can come who will be a follower Prophet. that is what Imam Rabbani understood

I can qoute many scholars long before the birth of the MGA (as) who have made this clear like Imam Rabbani, but everytime I present a credible argument it does not get posted. so whats the point!!!1

            Umar

          • Let it be known that this servant, that is, [al-Imām ar-Rabbani Mujaddid al-Alf ath-Thani] Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Ahad, who is greatly in need of Allahu ta’ala’s compassion and the first of them to invoke Him to protect him, his ancestry, masters, and disciples against the troubles of the Rising Day, has seen with regret that the people of our time have become increasingly slack in believing in the necessity of prophets’ coming, in the twenty-five prophets whose names are given in the Qur‟ān al-karim, and in obeying the religion brought by the last prophet. Moreover, some powerful people with authoritative positions in India have been torturing pious Muslims who diligently follow Islām. There have appeared people who mock the blessed name of the last prophet and substitute the blessed names given to them by their parents with absurd names.

            – Ahmad Sirhindi aka Imam-e-Rabbani

Hey, how come Ahmad Sirhindi didn’t say Last Law-Bearing Prophet? Why did he just say “Last prophet”?

That must make him a Jahil Mullah, right?

        • If u say Jammat is being honest is quoting Imam Rabbani belief
then according to u and jammat argument:
He believe in many ppl to be Prophet. but u know that he didnt nor even u believe in other ppl to be Prophets among Companions and tabaine

so plz be honest with ur self and come out of denial

  4. @ Xia

I believe this discussion is outside the scope of Umar’s knowledge. He has to first understand what people like Ibn Arabi, Sirhindi and Rabbani were talking about. He has to understand firstly that all of these people believed in the Ending of prophethood, they also believed that Esa (as) would physically return. Then…they gave us some ideas about a prophethood that wasnt REALLY prophethood but something else.

They never said that anyone would be a prophet the way that MGAQ claimed to be a prophet. Nor did they ever say the Mahdi and Esa (as) were the same people. There are lots of variables here that change the scope of discussion. Until those variables are agreed upon, we cant move forward.

FYI: The Lahoris believe MGAQ to be a prophet (metaphor) aka Muhadddas as Ibn Arabi described it.

    • lol what a load of rubbish ” I believe this discussion is outside the scope of Umar’s knowledge” on this issue I have just a few days ago refuted Farhans pionts on Ahadith in relation the Mahdi and Isa ibn Maryum will be the one and same person from a number of Hadith. only Almighty Allah (swt) has a knowledge but I am quite sure Xia my knowledge is more then yours as mentioned a number of Times I graduated in Islamic theology and christian theology (before becoming a Muslim) and hope to start a Phd in Theology so please it would seem most everything goes over your head.
