Mirza Ghulam Ahmad would have made modern economists proud with his skill at the art of prophecy. A prickly fellow who had just discovered the printing press, he started his career off by predicting the death of the father of a girl he wanted to marry, but no one else shared that desire. Included in that compound death prediction was the death of the girl’s betrothed if he dared to marry her, and that his ‘heavenly bride’ would be his in the end. So, the elderly father died, the girl got married to Sultan Beg, who would just not die — he even served in World War I (6 years after MGA’s death), and came back in one piece.
Hit and miss!
Then, he set upon a Christian priest by the name of Atham, predicting his death within a certain number of months and Atham lived. Another victim, a Hindu pandit, Lekh Ram, was also on the receiving end of these prophecies, having been given a lifespan of 6 years, and the portly pandit had the misfortune of being stabbed and murdered within that time period.
Hit and miss!
The British government had had enough, and Hindu-Muslim and Hindu-Christian relations in the Amritsar area of Punjab were being affected. They brough MGA and Maulvi Batalvi, MGA’s erstwhile confidant and good friend and subsequent nemesis, into a court and asked them to sign a declaration stopping this killing prophecy nonsense.
Our Mirza was deeply saddened and he tried his best to obey the law, but this death prediction brought in a lot of followers from the superstitious corners of Punjab and had an eerie effect on the targets (hmmm . . . death threats are considered criminal for a reason). So, he outsourced his death-wishes overseas. At that time, outsourcing was inverted, East-to-West, and he had the good fortune to have a young man by the name of Muhammad Ali, and this chap wrote brilliant English. MGA was so fond of this lad that he twice advertised for a suitable girl for his English-writing secretary – something he never ever did for anyone else.
So, our Mirza and Muhammad Ali scoured the papers for mention of foreign death-wish victims, and found two: John Alexander Dowie in the U.S.A.; and John Hugh Smyth-Pigott of the U.K. Both of them were a bit eccentric, with multiple confusing claims, and some claim on Divinity itself — in a nutshell, similar to Mirza Ahmad.
This was late 1902. Dowie was asked to respond to a challenge with detailed conditions within 7 months, which he did not. Smyth-Pigott was told he would die within Mirza’s lifetime – period! No conditions, nothing – rather unusual for a professional hedging prophecier – and it was even signed ‘THE PROPHET’. Dowie died in 1907, Mirza in 1908 and Smyth-Pigott in 1927. Very few of Mirza’s followers have heard of Smyth-Pigott, and the original publication has never been reprinted, nor even acknowledged. After 107 years, you can view it here, thanks to the Internet.
Hit and miss!

This is great, you are going good work brother. So he had Muhammad Ali sign for him as THE PROPHET.
I think author of article Akbar C complaint is with Allah swt. He is complaining why did Allah swt tell HMGA that Lakh Ram will be stabbed and Abdullah Athim will die etc.
Akbar C does NOT realize HMGA was tolerating as long as he was target of opponents of Islam, but when they targeted Islam, then they recieved the punishment of death. Just the way as long as Rasul Allah saws tolerated as long as he was target of opponents of Islam. But he took the sword and killed one after other opponents of Islam starting from battle in Badar onwards in other battles.
Akbar C also needs to understand differnce between Allah swt and Iraq’s Sadam Hussain.
Akbar C needs some intelligence and insight to understand the issue.
Reply to Akbar C article (provided by Dr. Zahid Aziz):
The blog article says that the British government became annoyed with
the prophecies of death of opponents and prohibited Hazrat Mirza sahib
from making them. The article then says that therefore Mirza sahib
started making prophecies about people abroad, and one person he
selected was Pigott.
This is an absurd contradiction, because Pigott lived in London! So
the British government stopped Mirza sahib from prophesying deaths of
people in British India, and this meant he could still prophesy deaths
of people in London itself!
The blog states:
“Very few of Mirza’s followers have heard of Smyth-Pigott,”
In Malfuzat, Pigott is mentioned several times.
It is quite amazing that the blog says that Ahmadis don’t know
anything about Piggott considering that this episode is clearly
mentioned in Ahmadiyya history. It is mentioned in Mujaddid-i Azam,
vol. 2, p. 875.
Piggott was soon discredited and exposed as a charlatan who was having
sexual relations with his female disciples.
Please read this link from the 1911 edition of Encyclopedia Britannica:
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/1911_Encyclop%C3%A6dia_Britannica/Agapemonites
It says: “On the 7th of September 1902, however, the congregation,
assembled at the Ark of the Covenant for service, found the communion
table replaced by a chair. In this Pigott presently seated himself and
proclaimed himself as the Messiah with the words, “God is no longer
there,” pointing upwards, “but here,” pointing to himself. This
astonishing announcement was followed by an excellent sermon on
Christian love. Pigott’s claim was at once admitted by the members of
his sect, including even his own wife, as the fulfilment of the
promise of Christ to appear in due time in the “Ark.” By the outside
world the affair was greeted with mingled ridicule and indignation,
and the new Messiah had to be protected by the police from the
violence of an angry mob. After providing “copy” for the newspapers
for a few days, however, the whole thing was forgotten. Pigott retired
to the headquarters of the sect, the “Abode of Love” in Somerset, and
all efforts to interview him or to obtain details of the life of the
community were abortive.”
Pigott did not pursue his claim further to the world. If his claim is
confined to the private domain of a few followers, it cannot be taken
seriously as misleading mankind.
The blog says HMGA did not mention any “condition” regarding his
death. In fact, even that notice clearly says “if he does not repent”.
Regarding the word “the prophet” at the end of that notice, it is used
because Hazrat Mirza sahib is making a prophecy from God. It is
addressed to people in England. They don’t know what a mujaddid or
muhaddas is. If he said to people in England “I don’t claim to be a
prophet”, they would take it as meaning that God doesn’t speak to him.
Reasons, why Author Akbar C is wrong:
I think author of article Akbar C complaint is with Allah swt. He is complaining why did Allah swt tell HMGA that Lakh Ram will be stabbed and Abdullah Athim will die etc.
Akbar C does NOT realize HMGA was tolerating as long as he was target of opponents of Islam, but when they targeted Islam, then they recieved the punishment of death. Just the way as Rasul Allah saws tolerated as long as he was target of opponents of Islam. But he took the sword and killed one after other opponents of Islam starting from battle in Badar onwards in other battles.
Akbar C also needs to understand differnce between Allah swt and Iraq’s Sadam Hussain.
Hats off to you br. AkberC for finding this jewel. This is reeeeeeeally awesome!
May Allah (SWT) reward you greatly for exposing the Musailamah of Qadian.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ 6:55
((Thus do We explain the signs in detail: that the way of the sinners may be shown up))
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
Is it not amazing Akbar C NEVER, NEVER writes on blog of Dr. Zahid Aziz.
If Akbar C is honest in his intentions then i would expect him to at least once bring up his “discoveries” with Dr. Zahid Aziz before telling his earth shettering discoveries to opponents of HMGA. Does Akbar C behavior makes him different than any street mullah in Pakistan?????

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad sahib’s challenge to Pigott shows his closeness to and
love for God. It was because of this, and because of his passion for
“Tauheed”, that he was outraged that a human being could claim to be
God. However, our Akbar C obviously doesn’t have any love for “Tauheed”
because he is unperturbed by a man’s claim to be god, and is quite
content to hold that he suffered no punishment from God.
In this prophecy HMGA sahib merely points to the ancient law
of God that He destroys those who dare to make themselves God. He
prophesies that that law will apply in this case. Akbar C, who is
supposedly a Muslim, believes that people can falsely claim to be God
with impunity.
Further, this prophecy shows the selflessness of HMGA sahib.
He is not confronting Pigott because Pigott attacked him but because
Pigott denigrated the dignity of God. His challenge to Pigott would
prove that God punishes false claimants to Divinity. That conclusion
would be in favour of all believers in God, especially Muslims. It is
not HMGA sahib specifically who wins and whose claim is
established if the prophecy comes true. All believers in God win by
this prophecy.
Pigott never again put forward his claim to the public nor invited
people to accept him as god. His followers amounted to about 100 women
and a much fewer number of men. Shortly after his claim, Pigott was
exposed in court as having fathered an illegitimate child through a
disciple. This public exposure completely undermined his claim. Even
HMGA critic refers to the “last of his followers”. In time all his
following vanished.
The biggest falsehood told by HMGA critic is that Ahmadis (both LAM members and Qadianis) are silent about this episode. It is fully mentioned in “Mujaddid-i Azam” (published by LAM). It is fully mentioned in the Qadiani Jamaat’s “Tarikh-i Ahmadiyyat”. Both these works are available online. References to Pigott by HMGA sahib are in Malfuzat (1986 edition, vols 4 and 5) and can be looked
up in the index under “Pigott”. That is also online.
Akbar C absurd logic is shown by his assertion that HMGA
sahib was so sure of this prophecy because he had read in newspapers
that Pigott had once to be protected by the police, and therefore
HMGA thought Pigott was likely to be killed soon! If he could
be protected by the police once he could be protected again! It may
make him less likely to be killed!
This raises the point: why didn’t HMGA sahib think he himself
was likely to be killed soon because he aroused much more opposition
against himself than Pigott!
Why was HMGA sahib so sure of the prophecy? Simply because he
believed that God would never allow such a false claimant to prosper!
That is why he wrote in such strong terms to Pigott, and warned him of
the maximum punishment that could befall him. The prophecy was given
in sure language because a warning has to be given clearly as to the
worst consequences, so that the person warned may take notice and
might think of changing his ways.
As to being sure, our Holy Prophet Muhammad SAWS was also sure that
he was going to perform the pilgrimage but he was stopped at
Hudaibiya, and Hazrat Umar RA even asked him: “Aren’t you a true prophet of God?
You told us we would perform the pilgrimage.” What reply did the Holy
Prophet give, and what does Akbar C and other opponents of HMGA think of it?
When opposition is based on animosity person loses common sense and rational thinking. This is what I notice in Akbar C post.
I predict that Masroor Ahmad will die if he doesnt repent.
This way if he does die I win, if he doesnt die, I have to assume that he repented.

Confusion cleared on prophecies of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad sahib.
Many readers on this forum are VICTIM OF THEIR CONFUSION about prophecies of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad sahib.
LAM elder Shaikh Abdur Rehman Misri sahib in his following short book has cleared confusion in peoples mind. Those who can read Urdu language can definitely read it and clear their confusion.

Dear Farooq,
You gave a long answer but have not touched the issue if the prophecy was fulfilled or not? Pigot was supposed to die in Mirza Sb life. Did he?
@newobserver:
If you understand ATTRIBUTES OF ALLAH SWT, and difference between Sadam Hussain and Allah swt, only then you will understand why lives of some were spared.
In fact, even that notice clearly says “if he does not repent”.
Doesn’t it make such prophecies extremely useless?
Let us say some Muslim scholar makes a prophecy that Mirza Masroor will die a horribe death unless he repents.
You see this prophecy is bound to be true. One whatever method he dies, you can call it horrible. If that is not possible, then the scholar will say that in response of my prophecy Mirza Masroor should have come back with to me with an open fight and he did not.
Even if he did so the scholar will say, that I made him a phone call just one day before his death and said him strong words but he did not say strong words in response so it means he repented.
The way Pigot repented – anyone can be assumed to have repented in case the prophecy is not fulfilled. Doesn’t it look like a fraud? Did Pigot become Muslim when he repented and started coming to Mosque of Muslims? Did he published a statement that he made a false claim and now wants to repent.
Just think over these things – don’t follow something just for the reason that your father followed it.
its funny:
Qadianis claim:
Atham didnt die still prophecy fullfiled
Sanaullah didnt die still prophecy fullfilled
John didnt die still prophecy got fullfiled
Hakeem didnt die still prophecy got fullfilled
so wat kind of funny prophecies are there

The reverend John Hugh Smyth-Pigott claimed to be the Christ in 1902. He was challenged by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad – Promised Messiah & Mahdi who predicted his doom in the same year and the fact that his own name and fame would spread across London when that of Pigott would have long vanished and that his own Ark of Noah, in allusion to the title of the pamphlet that was received in Qadian from Piggot (Malfoozat ii, 512).
I have visited his house in London and the Ark of the Covenant – I am also in touch with his family. A study of the recent book ‘The Abode of Love’ written by his grandaughter will prove how gloriously this prophecy of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was fulfilled. The Ark of the true Messiah and Mahdi has been established in Piggot’s own city since 1984, Allah be praised.
